Your decision of selecting an optional subject will play a very crucial part in the overall performance during the civil service examination. You should choose an optional subject only when you are sure that you will be able to cover the syllabus wholly including the general studies related to it. As a UPSC aspirant, you should opt for History as an optional subject only based on your interest as you would have to read it for the approaching one to one and a half year.
