All you need to know about Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET) 2018

The Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test or HTET as it is better known is administered by the Haryana Board of Secondary Education every year. Through this test the board recruits teachers in schools at various cadres and departments. In order for qualifying to be appointed as a teacher in a school that are given recognition by HBSE, you will have to clear HTET. It is essential to write the HTET test in order to make sure that the recruit has the required aptitude and capabilities required to fill in the position. 

The HBSE was appointed as the official board supposed to be regulating the HTET exams in the year of 2008 by the state government. The board ran the tests across the state under the title of School Teacher’s Eligibility Test (STET). However, after the RTE act, 209 was implemented and notice issued by NCTE in the year of 2011, the exam had been renamed as the Haryana Teachers Eligibility Test. The test administrates the recruitment of teacher in three levels. These levels namely are:

  • Primary Teachers (PRTs)
  • Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs)
  • Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs)

  • For Primary Teachers (PRTs), one needs to appear and qualify in the D.Ed. or JBT Exam.
  • For Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs) one needs to acquire a graduate degree along with a B.Ed. degree in the subject of interest.
  • For Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs) one needs to possess a post graduate degree along with a B.Ed. degree in the subject of interest.

The exam pattern for HTET is shared as follows:

The exam pattern for the primary teachers into 8 categories consisting of 150 questions in total. These eight categories are divided into Child Development and Pedagogy, Mathematics, Environmental Studies, Hindi, English, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning Ability and General Knowledge. The entire paper is worth 150 marks. For Trained Graduate Teachers the paper is spread into four categories namely Child Development and Pedagogy, the chosen subject of interest, Language (English and Hindi) and General Studies (Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning Ability, General Knowledge).The entire paper contains 150 questions and is worth 150 marks in total. Similar to TGT is the exam pattern of PGT.

In case you score 60% in the HTET exams i.e. If you score 90 out of 150 marks and belong to the General Category, you will qualify in the examination and your candidature will proceed towards the further recruitment process. In case of SC/ST candidates, you need to score an aggregate of 55% i.e. 83 marks out of 150 in order to qualify in the examination. However, just qualifying in the Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test will not confer you a right to get recruited/employed as this is not the sole criteria of getting appointed. You may reappear for HTET exams in case you wish to improve your score despite clearing the exams. The validity of HTET certificate once you qualify for recruitment is up to 5 years. There are no as such restrictions in regards to the attempts you can take in order to qualify the Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test.

How to prepare for HTET?

In conjugation with the books recommended by HBSE for the classes 9th, 10th and 12th you can follow HTET notes.

HTET notes can be purchased through a multitude of sources available online. These will help you to cover every single topic contained within a subject making sure that you miss out nothing. Apart from reading HTET notes, it is also crucial to retain the content of the subjects. In order to retain the content of HTET notes, you will have to understand and analyze each and every topic carefully. It is better that you start your preparing from the NCERT books as they will clear out your basic concepts and then move on to HTET notes. Also, it is of importance to time your question solving abilities. Make notes of whatever you read as they will help you a great deal in revising the content.
