What is Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET)

HTET or the Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test is conducted by the Board of Secondary Education of Haryana. By clearing this examination, aspirants become eligible to be recruited as teachers in the schools of Haryana state under a multitude of departments as well as cadres. Hence, clearing the Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test becomes essential for teaching aspirants. It is required that these teaching aspirants undergo HTET in order to ensure that they possess the right aptitude and capabilities that are needed for the job.

HTET Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test

The Board of Secondary Education of Haryana (HBSE) was declared the official board responsible to regulate the Haryana Teachers Eligibility Test in the year 2008 by the Haryana state government. Back then, the test was run by the name of STET or the School Teachers Eligibility test across the state by the board. However, post - implementation of the RTE Act in the year 2009 and thereafter the issuance of notice by NCTE in 2011, the exam was renamed as Haryana Teachers Eligibility Test. A teaching aspirant can take these tests at three different levels, each of them being of different cadres. These three levels are as follows:

  • The Primary Teachers (PRT)
  • The Trained Teachers (TGT)
  • Post Graduate Teachers (PGT)

What Is The Eligibility Criteria For HTET Students?

  • PRT - It is mandatory to appear and clear the D.Ed. or JBT exam before they can write HTET.
  • TGT - It is mandatory to possess a graduate degree in conjugation with a B.Ed in the subject they wish to pursue their teaching career in.
  • PGT – It is mandatory to possess post graduate degree in conjugation with a B.Ed in the subject they wish to pursue their teaching career in.

Note: Experts from the education industry advise that along with the main study material students should refer to HTET notes in order to clear the HTET examination successfully.

What is the exam pattern for HTET?

  • PGT – The Haryana Teachers Eligibility Test for Primary Teachers consists of total 150 questions. The entire paper is divided into 8 categories and is spread over branches like Child Development and Pedagogy, General Knowledge, Reasoning Ability, Mathematics, Quantitative Aptitude, Hindi, and English. The maximum marks for the paper is 150.
  • TGT - The Haryana Teachers Eligibility Test for the Trained Graduate Teachers also includes 150 questions. The only difference is that the paper is spread into four categories such as Child Development, General Studies (Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning Ability, General Knowledge), Language (English and Hindi) and Selective Subject.
  • PGT – The exam pattern of PGT bears an exact resemblance to TGT.

Note: Experts suggest that in order to be able to prepare well and time your questions in accordance with the duration of the exams, it is ideal to prepare using HTET Notes.

What is the exam criteria for HTET?

In order to qualify in the Haryana Teacher’s Eligibility Test, an aspirant belonging to the general category is required to score an aggregate of 60 percent which means he/she will be required to score a total of 90 marks out of 150. On the other hand, a student belonging to the SC or the ST category will require to score a total of 83 marks out of 150 i.e. 55 percent to qualify the HTET examination. But, aspirants should keep in mind that just clearing the examination process is not the only criteria of the HTET examination.

Apart from following the regular study material such as the HBSE recommended textbooks, etc. aspirants should also include HTET notes into their curriculum.
